Internship Opportunities

Ready to launch your forensic science career? The North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory (NLCL) is accepting applications from rising college seniors and graduate students for our internship program—a unique opportunity to explore the world of forensic science while gaining hands-on laboratory experience.

Interns will complete an individual research or technical project in one of our key forensic disciplines:

  • Firearms examination

  • Forensic biology

  • Forensic chemistry

  • Forensic toxicology

In addition to working on a project within one discipline, interns will have the chance to shadow expert forensic analysts across other sections, gaining a well-rounded view of real-world forensic lab operations.

The duration of the unpaid internship is 8-12 weeks with a minimum of 20 hours per week being spent in the laboratory.

Application Process

All interested applicants are encouraged to complete the internship application.

Upon receipt of the completed application by the NLCL, an interview will be scheduled before acceptance.

The interview may be conducted either in person or over the phone.

Qualified candidates must:

1.  Be U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are eligible to work in the United States.

2.  Be enrolled in a class at their university for which he/she will receive credit

3.  Have insurance through his/her university or other means

DNA Intern - Spring 2019

This internship gave me a great insight into what actually takes place in the DNA section of a forensics lab. Not only was I conducting my own experiment but I also got the chance to watch other analysts work on real casework which was enjoyable.

Toxicology Summer Intern - 2020

“The experience and knowledge I gained during my time working with the toxicology team is something for which I will always be thankful. I was granted hands-on learning opportunities to complete my project, given chances to be a part of other ongoing experiments, and allowed to see the inner workings of how a forensic toxicology lab functions on a daily basis.”
