The North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory (NLCL) is pleased to offer multiple in-person training opportunities for law enforcement officers, investigators, attorneys, and allied professionals throughout 2026. These courses are designed to improve evidence handling, strengthen investigative understanding, and enhance courtroom readiness across forensic disciplines.

DNA and Firearms

Format: Full-day, in-person training
Class 1
Dates:
March 19, 2026
June 4, 2026
October 15, 2026
Topics include:
NIBIN overview and firearms intelligence
DNA case examples and CODIS fundamentals
Evidence collection best practices
Evidence packaging and preservation
Hands-on practice with real-world scenarios
Courtroom relevance of proper evidence handling
This class is designed for patrol officers, crime scene investigators, and those planning to attend DNA and Firearms Class 2.
Class 2

October 22, 2026
Topics include:
Firearms and toolmark examination foundations
CODIS hits and post-hit requirements
DNA analysis and report interpretation
Mixture interpretation and STRmix introduction
Pretrial preparation and expert testimony considerations
This course is best suited for detectives, case agents, and attorneys. Attendance at Class 1 is strongly encouraged prior to enrolling in Class 2.
Drug Chemistry and Toxicology

Class 1

Overview of NLCL Drug Chemistry and Toxicology services
Case examples and analytical workflows
Evidence collection for drug and toxicology cases
Evidence packaging and submission standards
Hands-on practice with mock evidence
Case scenarios and courtroom relevance
This course is ideal for patrol officers, investigators, and anyone responsible for collecting or submitting drug or toxicology evidence.
Class 2
Dates:
May 14, 2026
September 17, 2026
Topics include:
Drug chemistry analysis and report interpretation
Toxicology workflows and result interpretation
Pretrial questions and expert testimony
Novel psychoactive substances and emerging trends
Collaboration between agencies and laboratory personnel
Class 2 builds on concepts introduced in Class 1 and is particularly valuable for detectives, prosecutors, and attorneys involved in case preparation and testimony.
Registration and Additional Information
Registration is required for all courses.
Attorneys attending applicable courses will be eligible for CLE credit through the Louisiana State Bar Association. An additional sign-in will be required on the day of training.
Participants are encouraged to submit specific topic requests during registration.
